Two options, two philosophies

Foam cubes: the sure bet for fun

They're visually appealing, evoking a fluffy cloud you dream of diving into… Foam cubes have long been the norm in landing pits. Their playful, colorful, and immersive nature appeals to both children and adults. And that's often what we expect from an amusement park: that it be fun and photogenic.

But cubes also have limitations :

  • Safety : To ensure safe reception, a minimum depth of 1.20 to 1.40 m and a constant fill level , without areas of compaction, are required. A displaced or compacted cube can compromise shock absorption.
  • Hygiene : cleaning is a real challenge. The cubes have to be removed, washed one by one or treated by area, then everything put back in place. It's long and tedious.
  • Budget : at the time of purchase, it is a more accessible solution, but it requires frequent restocking due to wear and tear.

The next generation airbag: the solution of tomorrow

More and more parks are opting to install the airbags . This system, long reserved for stunt shows, has become more widespread and adapted to the demands of leisure activities.

Here's why it's so appealing:

  • Maximum safety : the airbag absorbs shocks evenly , regardless of the impact zone. Even better, some models are equipped with sensors and alarms that trigger in case of a poor deployment.
  • Ultra-simplified maintenance : only one surface to clean. It's clean in 5 minutes.
  • Long-term profitability : admittedly, the initial investment is higher.
  • But no restocking, little maintenance and a lifespan much longer than that of cubes.
  • Customizable : the airbag can be in the colours of your park , with printed or integrated visuals, which facilitates its integration into your world.

Airbag or cubes: how to decide?

What you need to understand is that each solution addresses a different need . The right choice depends on your concept, your budget, your target audience… and your operational constraints.

An airbag is the preferred option if you are looking for:

  • A simple operation , quick to clean
  • Maximum security for a wide audience
  • sustainable and cost-effective solution over time
  • A customizable design for visual consistency

Cubes remain relevant if:

  • immersive
    experience
  • You organize short-term or themed events
  • You are prepared to undertake frequent maintenance
  • You want a strong and attractive visual element

Storkeo 's opinion

The trends are clear: in new installations , airbags are taking over. They better meet new safety requirements post-Covid hygiene challenges operators' profitability needs

This does not mean that cubes are obsolete, but their use is becoming more specialized: they are more readily found in areas for young children , temporary events , or in installations where aesthetics and play take precedence over logistical efficiency.

At Storkeo , we support dozens of project leaders each year in the design, development and optimization of their leisure spaces.
